PROFILE:
"AS THE WORLD TURNED" (...according to Joan Duby Simpson )
" Four years at Wake Forest (including Psychology pet “rats”, Wake’s one-and-only Final 4 appearance); meeting MPHS friends unexpectedly on Daytona Beach; Piccolo’s family game day driver; and -- oh yeah -- a college degree leading to a job in NYC and watching the World Trade Center emerge from the ground.
Marriage to Wayne, move to West Milford, NJ for 43 years and an odd assortment of jobs -- paperhanger/painter; bagel maker; director of a mother/child program; caterer of private events -- before finding myself back in the classroom for the last 25 years, teaching learning disabilities, gifted, civics and world history (not all at the same time). Throw in some coaching track and tennis, teaching drama and cooking to students, leading a NJ team to Olympics of the Mind World Finals and cutting a mean rug on class trips. The birth of 2 children, Brad 38 and Laura 36, led me to PTA meetings, softball and Little League games and West Milford Presbyterian Church where session meetings, rummage sales and dinners for 150 found me very busy. To keep my sanity, travel in the summer months with other teachers began with a week at a tennis camp in Vermont, and has ended with numerous 3 week trips around the world covering 6 continents. White water rafting the Urubamba in Peru, sleeping under the stars in the Sinai, floating down the Nile on a small felucca, glacering in New Zealand, doing research in the rain forest of Costa Rica and working an archeological dig in Spain to name a few. More recently (summer 2012) enjoyed an amazing trip on the Trans-Siberian Railroad, from Beijing in China to St. Petersburg in Russia.
And now in my golden (or should I say white-haired) years, Wayne and I have retired to Mt. Pleasant, SC, a suburb of Charleston and a life of leisure. SC was a good choice because my added weight looks thinner down here.
After waiting patiently, our children gifted us with a granddaughter, Eva, and a grandson, Colin, within 12 days during the summer of 2009, necessitating a trip from NJ to SC to NC to Colorado and back. Grandson #2, Reid, joined Eva this June. Now my travels include babysitting duties.
As my neighbors say: Y’all come down and see us sometime. The door is always open and we’ll leave the light on, too. "
26. EGGERT, Jim-- now deceased (July 1979)
1961 1963
James Harold Eggert was born on March 21, 1943, in New York, New York, his father, Harold, was 29 and his mother, Muriel, was 25.
After high school, Jim went to Wake Forest University (photo, right) in North Carolina; he served in the U.S. Air Force from April 1966 thru December 1969, and then was married on December 21, 1971, when he was 28.
Jim and his wife moved to Houston, Texas, where he lived for 8 years while employed as a systems analyst with a Houston petroleum company. Sadly, on July 13, 1979, at the all-too-young age of 36, Jim used a gun to take his own life. He is buried in Houston. May he rest in peace.
